Our Church School Vision

Spurring each other on with the courage to make a positive difference for ourselves and others.

As a Church of England school, we work together to fulfill our core vision. At Totnes St John's, our vision deliberately references Hebrews coupled with the fundamental ‘life in all its fullness’ message of St John

- Hebrews 10:24, NIV: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,".

Furthermore, as a collective, we have created a vision that mirrors the early church, with an emphasis on growing and supporting each other with courage. The children are actively learning all about St John, the relevance of his Gospel to the school, and the Spirit of God speaking into our developing community.

To achieve our distinctly Christian vision, we identified fundamental values to act as pillars to cultivate the ethos in our pupils. Each value is underpinned by a biblical story or parable to support pupils' knowledge and understanding. The stories were chosen by our school council and Ethos Committee.

We are compassionate through all of our interactions with each other. Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience

We are determined to make a positive difference to ourselves and others. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

We are aspirational to be the very best version of ourselves.

Luke 1:37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”

We are honest by taking ownership of our actions, respecting others and seeking to repair any wrongs we have made.

Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another

We are responsible for seeking a purpose for life and supporting the well-being of ourselves and others.

Psalm 92:13 They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.
